PRIVACY POLICY

Last Updated: October 22, 2025

Look, we get it - nobody actually reads these things. But we're architects, not lawyers, so we'll keep this straightforward. We take your privacy seriously because, honestly, we'd want the same respect if the roles were flipped. This isn't some copy-paste job from a template site. It's how we actually handle your info when you work with us or just browse around our site.

01. WHAT WE COLLECT

When you reach out to us or fill in a contact form, we'll grab the basics - your name, email, phone number, and whatever details you share about your project. If you're visiting our office on West Georgia Street, we might ask you to sign in (standard Vancouver building security stuff, y'know).

Our website also collects some tech data through cookies - IP addresses, browser type, pages you clicked through. Nothing creepy, just the usual analytics to see what people actually look at. We wanna know if folks care more about our volcanic stone work or the sustainability page.

02. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA

We use your info to respond to inquiries, send project proposals, and keep you updated on work we're doing together. That's it. We're not selling your email to some random marketing database or passing it along to third parties who'll spam you about timeshares.

Sometimes we'll send updates about our latest projects or design insights if you've opted in - but there's always an unsubscribe button right there. No hard feelings if you bail on our newsletter, seriously.

03. DATA STORAGE & SECURITY

Your data lives on secure Canadian servers - we're keeping everything local where possible. We use SSL encryption on our site (that little padlock in your browser), and our internal systems require authentication. It's not Fort Knox, but it's solid protection for an architecture studio.

Project files and client communications are stored securely and only accessible to team members who actually need them. We don't just leave sensitive drawings or details sitting in some shared folder everyone can poke around in.

04. COOKIES & TRACKING

Yeah, we use cookies. Not the chocolate chip kind, unfortunately. These are small files that help our site remember preferences and track basic analytics. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies if you're not into it - though some features might act weird without them.

We use Google Analytics to understand traffic patterns. It's anonymized data, so we're seeing trends rather than tracking individual people around the web like some stalker.

05. YOUR RIGHTS

Under Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA, if you're curious), you've got rights. You can ask what data we've got on you, request corrections if something's wrong, or tell us to delete everything. Just shoot an email to info@obsidianborn.info and we'll sort it out.

Response time's usually within a couple weeks, depending on what you're asking for. We might need to verify your identity first - can't just hand over project details to anyone who asks, right?

06. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

We work with a few external services - email hosting, cloud storage, analytics tools. These providers have their own privacy policies, and we've vetted them to make sure they're legit. We don't share more than necessary with any of them.

If we ever need to bring in consultants or contractors for your project, they're bound by confidentiality agreements. Your residential design isn't gonna end up as someone's portfolio piece without permission.

07. PROJECT PHOTOGRAPHY

We love documenting our completed projects - those volcanic stone facades photograph beautifully. But we always get explicit permission before using any images for marketing or portfolio purposes. If you'd rather keep your home or commercial space private, no problem. We've got plenty of other work to show off.

08. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

Privacy laws evolve, our practices might shift, and we'll update this document when needed. The date at the top tells you when we last touched it. Major changes? We'll send an email to active clients. For everyone else, it's worth checking back occasionally if you're curious.

09. CONTACT & COMPLAINTS

Questions about how we handle your data? Concerns about something we're doing? Get in touch and we'll talk it through. We're at 1425 West Georgia Street, Suite 900, Vancouver, BC V6G 3A9. Phone's (604) 555-0187, or drop us a line at info@obsidianborn.info.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you've got the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. We'd rather resolve things directly, but that option's there if needed.

Bottom line: we're treating your information the way we'd want ours treated. Nothing fancy, nothing sketchy - just straightforward respect for your privacy while we design buildings that'll hopefully outlast all of us.
